Sea floors |

The sea floors of the Canaries, product of the geological hecatombs of the past as seen in the numerous inactive volcanic cones that are found throughout the archipelago, are ideal for the proliferation of the whole food chain. The marine flora and fauna abound due to the phenomena of up welling, which occurs on our coasts. Marine plankton, sun and adequate temperatures combine to produce a nourishing harvest of bait fish (small tuna, sardines, squid) that attract the large deep-sea fish: marlin, tuna, swordfish, sharks, gilt fish, etc. |
These nutrients also support a large population of coastal fish, which are of great sporting interest, such as grouper, samas, barracuda, parrotfish -viejas- and bocinegra. This rich and diverse abundance is the mark of an extraordinarily clean environment. If the quality and transparency of our atmosphere are endorsed by the world's astronomers who, study the sky from the Canaries, the clarity and cleanliness of our waters are proven by the appearance of the most demanding and expert oceanographer: the Great Blue Marlin of the Atlantic. |
