The wind in the Canaries, loyal ally to the windsurfer, guarantees surfing in any season. The many athletes who visit year after year appreciate it and have come to know the incredible potential of our beaches for both amateur and professional. Especially outstanding are the month of April and the summer season during which the trade winds blow with exceptional force. The magnificent conditions during these times have earned the recognition of the PBA World Tour, which in the last seasons, designated various Canarian locations for the National Championships and the World Cup in their particular disciplines. Places such as Pozo Izquierdo and Playa Vargas, Gran Canaria, El Cabezo in Tenerife, Sotavento in Fuerteventura or Las Cucharas in Lanzarote enjoy international prestige making the Canaries one of the best destinations in the world for windsurfing.

The Canary Islands are subject to the trade winds from the north-northeast that blow from moderate to strong with notable regularity in their velocity. The dominant winds therefore are those from the north, which in the summer reach a higher velocity on the withdrawal of the anti-cyclone of the Azores and are produced by the drop in heat of the Sahara that acts as a sumidero (drain). The wind is intimately tied to the sea, since it is precisely the cool and humid trade winds that determine the gentle temperatures and unique vegetation in a geographic zone that is so close to the African Sahara, a distance of only 100 km from the nearest Canarian coast. It is a peculiarity that becomes a natural miracle.
